Smaller mobility scooters allowed on buses
Tue, 06 Sep 2016
Ricability the consumer research charity has produced information on the development that some smaller mobility scooter models can now be taken on low-floor buses.
The organisation states that Scooter users can take their scooter on the bus if:-
• their local bus company is running a scooter permit scheme
• their scooter is a Class 2, no more than 600mm wide and 1000mm long, has a turning radius of no more than 1200mm and does exceed 300kg including the user
• the bus company has assessed them in safely using their scooter on the bus.
Permit schemes have been developed across the UK by the Confederation for Passenger Transport (CPT) and over 20 bus operators have now introduced them, as has London by Transport for London (TfL).
